TWO wins from two Sectional League Cup outings...

thats Vale of Clyde after edging out hosts Cambuslang Rangers in midweek.

A much-changed visitors line-up would have delighted John Crooks with their storming second half recovery after a disappointing opening 45 minutes. That was to be expected with the absence of Jamie Wilson, Stephen McDevitt, Joe Hayes, Lee and Bryan Morrison, John Crooks, Andy Kenna, and Thomas Sinclair as Cambuslang fully deserved the first half plaudits with a 1-0 lead.

Vale fielded two ex-Gantry AFC players, Gary Gaitens in central defence, and John Hughes taking up a central midfield role.

With Alan Jack pulling the strings on the resumption, it was no surprise the visitors levelled, but the quality of the finish was superb. Aldo Mackin laid the ball across the area, and Halliday turned cleverly before shooting home.

Halliday was in great form and his shooting boots struck again with a long range effort which the Cambuslang 'keeper, caught off his line, tried to save but only managed to help into the net for a 2-1 lead.

The same player then hit a post, but the scoreline became 3-1 when substitute Scott Hadden wriggled his way past defenders and made no mistake in 76 minutes.

Cambuslang,to their credit, kept battling,and almost snatched the equaliser right at the death, but Vale somehow hung on to go top of the section with full points. [ View the current SLCup table ]
