Jack

It is with special thanks to his daughter Elizabeth, who came accross our website by chance and remembered that her dad was one of ours many years ago. This is the inspiraton for our veterans section, which i hope will bring other ex-players / family with a story to tell about their time at the Vale of Clyde Football Club.

Thank you once again Jack & Elizabeth McBride.

The Footballer :

Jack Connell McBride

I was born October 11th, 1924 at the Half Way,

1 Mill Road, Cambuslang.

I played for the Vale of Clyde in 1939/40. The position i played was outside left. I played my final game, a friendly game, against Falkirk at Brockville Park when Tully Craig was the manager of Falkirk. Mr Craig was going to sign me to play professional football with Falkirk FC, but i was sent to serve in WWII.

  10. Hi Jack!

I found this so interesting! I wanted to let you know that I did check it out. I never knew that you were in the war. Thank you for everything you did while serving. See you soon!

    Todd

  11. Hey Jack,

You certainly had a love for playing the game, that's for sure. Putting football teams together on a Navy destroyer is not something you do every day eh pal !!!. It tells me that you must have had total respect from the guy's you served with, on and off the ship. Dont worry about names of players and managers Jack, if any come to you as sometimes does with all of us, just post them here and i'll do the rest. Elizabeth sent me some pics from the rememberance day service and guess what. I picked you out straight away, you've not changed that much from your younger days Jack. I believe that you enjoyed your day. I wsh you many more mate.

    Best wishes,

    Andy.

  12. Andy:

You certainly are keeping my old brain functioning but that is a good thing! No Andy, I did not play for any other junior teams during my soccer career. I played for the Vale in 1941 and was sent to war in 1942 where I played for the combined forces, army, navy and airforce. I also put together two teams on my destroyer HMS Jervis. I cannot remember the name of the manager during my time with the Vale but I will work on that. Tomorrow is remembrance day and I will be attending the parade in Bracebridge. Have a good day, Andy.

    Jack McBride
